Deplorable Me, Despicable Hillary

My View by Jim Yacavone
(September 16, 2016)

In the last Presidential election over 61 million people voted for the Republican candidate. The numbers in this election should be in that vicinity. Thus, we can reasonably expect that at least 50 to 60 million voters will support Trump in November. Hillary Clinton believes that half of these voters—some 25 to 30 million— are a “basket of deplorables” made up of “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic” people because they support Donald Trump and disagree with her policies.

Hillary’s statement slanders of millions of hard-working Americans and reveals how she and her fellow liberal Democrats really view the common man in this country—with condescension and contempt.
It is also a tactic straight out of the liberal playbook. Liberal Democrats call you racist if you believe that all lives matter, not only black ones, or that Al Sharpton is a fraud. They scream that you are sexist if you oppose government funding for abortions or the abortion practices of Planned Parenthood. They call you homophobic if you disagree with them regarding the definition of marriage or believe that males who identify as women should not be allowed to use middle school girls bathrooms.
They cry that your are a xenophobe if you oppose uncontrolled immigration or do not support amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. They label you Islamophobic if you think we should exercise greater caution in allowing Syrian refugees into this country or believe that Islamic terrorists should be called exactly what they are—Islamic terrorists—or if you have questions about whether the fundamental tenets of Islam are consistent with the basic values of this society.
It doesn’t matter to them that these are legitimate issues of national policy and that your advocacy has nothing to do with bigotry or discrimination. If you don’t think the way they do you are deplorable.
Much of Trump’s support comes from working class men and women. They are the everyday people who work with their hands and backs, drive pickups, go to church, drink beer and root for their favorite teams. An analysis of exit polling data from the primaries shows that many of them are not college educated. Katherine Cramer, a political science professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who studied the data, described them as “folks who have been feeling a real struggle to make ends meet for decades now.” These are Hillary’s “deplorables.” In her mind and in the mind of many liberals they are ignorant bigots.
Who is she to impugn millions of Americans who she has nothing in common with? This is a woman who claimed that she and her husband were broke when they left the White House with a $200,000 a year pension from the government, an amount that is four times larger than the median family income in the United States. She could afford to spend an estimated $3 million on her daughter’s wedding. That’s more than most of the “deplorables” will earn in their lifetime. Her daughter walked into a $600,000 a year job after college. The “deplorables” are lucky if they can afford to send their kids to community college.
Hillary’s statement exposes the disdain that liberals have for the average, hard-working American who happens to disagree with “progressive” policies and the liberal agenda. It’s the same disdain that was revealed when Obama contemptuously described Midwestern voters as clinging to their guns and religion or told small business owners that they didn’t build their businesses.
Trump supporters may be deplorable, but Hillary’s view of them is despicable.
That’s my view. What’s yours?
